Stock markets across Asia are little changed this morning as most peers are shut on account of the Lunar New Year Holiday.
The Nasdaq and S&P 500 eked out modest gains on Thursday with investors betting on more fiscal stimulus, but U.S. President Joe Biden said China was poised to “eat our lunch,” a warning that tempered enthusiasm for a market near record highs.
The S&P 500 gained 6.5 points, or 0.17%, to 3,916.38 and the Nasdaq Composite added 53.24 points, or 0.38%, to 14,025.77. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 7.1 points, or 0.02%, to 31,430.7.
US weekly jobless claims edge down as labor market recovery stalls
Elsewhere, Bitcoin too hit a new high, now trading past the $48,000 mark after Mastercard and BNY Mellon Corp. made it easier for customers to use cryptocurrencies.
