Global stocks hit a record high for the first time since early 2018 and bond yields climbed after news that President Donald Trump signed off on a trade deal with China averting tariffs set for Sunday.

The S&P 500 rallied following a Bloomberg report that American officials had reached a deal in principle that only needed Trump’s approval. Shortly after U.S. markets closed, news broke that the president had signed off on the agreement to avert tariffs set for Dec. 15.

The pound jumped by the most since 2017 on signs Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party was on course to secure a strong majority in the U.K. election, raising hopes of an end to the Brexit deadlock.

Market will open on a flat note today. 

On the back of rising optimism over trade deal and strong jobs report, all three major US stock indexes gained around a percent each on Friday.

Globally, the focus will remain on US-China trade deal and the Fed meet. The market is expecting the first phase deal between US-China to be signed in December especially before December 15 deadline when the tariffs on $156 billion in Chinese imports is set to take effect.

The last policy meeting of Federal Open Market Committee this year will be held on December 10-11. Experts largely expect the US central bank to keep interest rate unchanged after three rate cuts this year and could turn more hawkish.

Federal Reserve recently hinted about steady interest rate due to the moderate pace of economic growth and low inflation in the US.

The second national election in less than three years will be conducted in the United Kingdom on December 12. It is the most important event as it will decide the path for Britain's exit from the European Union.

American equity futures dipped and stocks in Asia opened with a cautious tone after support from the U.S. Congress for Hong Kong protesters set up the potential for further confrontation with China as investors await a trade deal.

The S&P 500 Index posted its biggest loss in a month after a report that Washington and Beijing are unlikely to reach a trade deal this year.
