U.S. markets climbed to a record high on the final trading day of the year, amid thin volumes. U.S. stocks ended a tumultuous year with the Dow and S&P 500 at records, as the three major U.S. equity indexes notched solid-to-spectacular yearly gains despite an economy upended by the COVID-19 virus as investors looked to a post-pandemic world. Claims for jobless benefits fall in US to 787,000, down 19,000. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 196.92 points, or 0.65%, to 30,606.48, the S&P 500 gained 24.03 points, or 0.64%, to 3,756.07 and the Nasdaq Composite added 18.28 points, or 0.14%, to 12,888.28.

Futures on the Dow Jones are trading with gains of 32 points. 

US stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the Dow Industrials nudging up to a record, as investors looked towards an improving economic outlook in 2021 on the back of COVID-19 vaccine rollouts and hopes for even more fiscal support.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 73.89 points, or 0.24%, to 30,409.56, the S&P 500 gained 5 points, or 0.13%, to 3,732.04 and the Nasdaq Composite added 19.78 points, or 0.15%, to 12,870.00.

Market will open with a gap-up today to start the last week of the decade (2011-2020) after a long weekend on RBI's praised article.

Asian markets have begun the final trading week of 2020 on a positive note. President Donald Trump signed a bill containing $900 billion in pandemic relief and also averted the risk of a partial government shutdown. Futures on the Dow Jones are currently trading with gains of 65 points.

The S&P 500 ended higher at the close of a shortened session on Thursday as investors headed into the long Christmas weekend with hopes that an imminent stimulus agreement, a Brexit deal, and the ongoing vaccine rollout will spell brighter days in the coming year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 70.04 points, or 0.23%, to 30,199.87, the S&P 500 gained 13.05 points, or 0.35%, to 3,703.06 and the Nasdaq Composite added 33.62 points, or 0.26%, to 12,804.73.

Market will continue yesterday's rally at the opening.

Futures on the Dow Jones are trading with gains of 40 points.  

Asian markets have opened higher ahead of the Christmas holiday period. An outline of the post-Brexit deal appears to be soothing investor nerves. 

The S&P 500 closed barely in positive territory on Wednesday as an expected stimulus deal and falling jobless claims prompted investors to put their money into sectors most likely to benefit from the economy re-opening when it recovers from the global health crisis. US weekly jobless claims fall; consumer spending declines in November. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 114.32 points, or 0.38%, to 30,129.83, the S&P 500 gained 2.75 points, or 0.07%, to 3,690.01 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 36.80 points, or 0.29%, to 12,771.11.

Oil gains 2% after draws in U.S. product inventories. Brent crude futures rose $1.12, or 2.2%, to settle at $51.20 a barrel.

Market will open on a flat note today after some gains on the bourses yesterday.

Futures on the Dow Jones are trading lower by 90 points.

Asian markets have opened modestly higher in mid-week trade, even as U.S. stock futures reversed gains.

The S&P 500 lost ground on Tuesday as concerns over a new variant of the coronavirus and disappointing economic data stole the thunder from Washington’s passage of a long-awaited pandemic relief bill.

Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 200.94 points, or 0.67%, to 30,015.51, the S&P 500 lost 7.66 points, or 0.21%, to 3,687.26 and the Nasdaq Composite added 65.40 points, or 0.51%, to 12,807.92.

Outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump signalled he may not sign the $900 billion bipartisan relief package just a day after Congress passed it. Investors also continued to assess the vaccine rollout and concern around a new virus variant that is leading to more severe lockdowns.

Rising virus cases across the world are threatening to overshadow U.S. pandemic relief and the initial delivery of vaccines.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden warned that the darkest days of the pandemic are yet to come and asked the Congress to be prepared for another round of stimulus next year. 

Oil drops as new coronavirus variant revives demand fears. Brent crude was down 60 cents, or 1.2%, at $50.32 a barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 72 cents, or 1.5%, to $47.25.

Asian equities are drifting lower this morning post a mixed overnight session on Wall Street. Futures on the Dow Jones are currently trading with gains of 90 points.  

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones ended lower on December 14, weighed down by Walt Disney, while Alexion Pharmaceuticals jumped on a $39 billion buyout offer from AstraZeneca in one of the year's biggest deals where as Nasdaq gained.

Dow Futures is trading with a gain of 180 points as nation's first COVID-19 vaccine will begin arriving in states Monday morning, United States officials said on Saturday. 

The new trading week has begun on a positive note for Asian equities. Global equities are looking to recover after their first weekly loss in six.

A weak greenback, coupled with stimulus bill negotiations and the impending deployment of the first Covid-19 vaccine in the U.S. is giving investors comfort.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed with modest declines on Friday, as uncertainty over fresh economic stimulus dented confidence, although strong gains from Walt Disney helped the Dow Industrials eke out a gain.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 47.11 points, or 0.16%, to close at 30,046.37, the S&P 500 lost 4.64 points, or 0.13%, to 3,663.46 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 27.94 points, or 0.23%, to 12,377.87.

Major averages closed on Thursday with a rebound from early lows as investors looked for signs of progress in fiscal stimulus talks to support the economy after labor market data showed a jump in jobless claims.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the S&P and Nasdaq setting record highs, in part due to a boost from the healthcare sector on positive COVID-19 vaccine news, while uncertainty over fresh fiscal stimulus held gains in check.

Asian markets have opened lower this morning as swelling Covid-19 infections led to an overnight drop in U.S. equities.

Futures on the Dow Jones are currently trading 65 points lower.

The Nasdaq closed at a record high on Monday after investors moved into mega-cap growth stocks even as a new round of COVID-19 restrictions underscored the continuing economic impact of the pandemic on the United States.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 149.59 points, or 0.5%, to 30,068.67, the S&P 500 lost 6.4 points, or 0.17%, to 3,692.72 and the Nasdaq Composite added 56.02 points, or 0.45%, to 12,520.25.

Oil prices fell around 1% on Monday as surging coronavirus cases and heightened tensions between the United States and China undermined the positive impact from an OPEC+ deal on production.

Wall Street’s main indexes rose to all-time high on Friday as data showing the slowest U.S. jobs growth in six months raised investors’ expectations for a new fiscal relief bill to help revive the coronavirus-hit economy and US trade deficit widens less than expected in October. US job gains miss expectations in November; unemployment rate falls to 6.7%.
